# Terminology API

> Clinical codes and FHIR terminology operations

The **Terminology API** at [terminology.aiql.io](https://terminology.aiql.io) is the programmatic surface of the [Terminology](/products/terminology) product.

It loads standard clinical code systems, maps free text or codes to trusted codes with explainable matching, and exposes FHIR terminology operations. It is aimed at clinical coding and interoperability.

Workspaces, ingestion, and queries stay on the [Middleware API](/products/middleware). The Terminology API is the coding and vocabulary layer used where healthcare interoperability is required.
